This is JS, not Shahbagh: Speaker to Hasnat
Opposition lawmakers on Thursday protested the passage of the July Uprising Memorial Museum Bill (amended form), alleging that it violated the consensus reached in a special parliamentary committee.
The tension escalated after Opposition Chief Whip Nahid Islam raised objections, triggering a heated exchange between the treasury and opposition benches.
Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, presiding over the session, said the current parliament is more disciplined and effective compared to previous ones.
During the debate, NCP lawmaker Hasnat Abdullah, a prominent figure of the July movement, stood up and began raising his voice from his seat.Addressing him directly, the Speaker said, “Such intolerance will not do, Mr Abdullah.
This is not Shahbagh square. This is parliament. Here you must wait patiently and listen.”
Following the remark, the House erupted in noise and shouting.
The Speaker further warned that there is little scope for verbal outbursts in parliament and advised lawmakers to submit formal notices instead of disrupting proceedings.
