Main accused lands in jail

A court here on Monday rejected the bail petition of Joynal Abedin Hasi, the prime accused in a case filed in connection with the public humiliation of a young housewife during arbitration at Shapmari village in Sadar upazila.
Passing the order, Chief Judicial Magistrate M Saifur Rahman sent him to jail again. Officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station Mazharul Karim said a team of police arrested Hashi from the district town on Saturday night. The court sent to him on Sunday when he was produced before it. However, hearing on his bail petition was held on Monday.
On July 26, in an undeliverable incident of humiliation, a young housewife was allegedly stripped naked during arbitration at Shapmari village in Sadar upazila.
Later, an attempted rape case was filed against four people in this connection. According to the case statement, the victim went to her father’s house at Shapmari from her house at nearby Badapara
village after her husband, who works at a washing company in Chittagong, left for his workplace on July 19.
Victim’s brother Azmir Hossain, a garment worker, had an altercation with his wife Shyamoly Begum over his job which went to arbitration on Friday.
The victim had an altercation with Shyamoly’s cousin Joynal Abedin Hashi, son of Ayez Uddin of the same village, after she sided with her brother at the arbitration.
At one stage, Hasi and his associates Mintu, Bhutto and Mithu stripped off her clothes and dragged her around in front of the villagers present at the arbitration. With the arrest of Hashi, two accused have so far been arrested in the case, said police. Earlier on July 29, Rapid Action Battalion members arrested Mintu Miah, 20, son of Nawab Ali of Banderbari area in the district town of Jamalpur, in Jamalpur Sadar upazila.
