Korean series ‘The Remarried Empress’ in discussion
The newly released Korean fantasy romance series ‘The Remarried Empress’ has broken records on Disney Plus and Hulu, becoming the most-watched ‘local original premiere’ on the platform in its first three days of release.
According to Disney, ‘The Remarried Empress’ has become the most popular Korean series on Disney Plus in more than 50 countries, including the United Kingdom, France, Spain, Germany, Mexico, Chile, Australia, New Zealand, and Canada, not just the United States or Asia.
With this, ‘The Remarried Empress’ has broken the record of Disney Plus’ previous hit Korean series ‘Moving’.
The superhero drama ‘Moving’, released in 2023, was mainly popular in South Korea and across Asia.
‘The Remarried Empress’ has been able to attract a wide audience not only in Asia, but also in Europe and America.
‘The Remarried Empress’ has been a hot topic of discussion since its release. Tickets for its preview screening at the Busan International Film Festival sold out in an instant.
The trailer also received a huge response on YouTube and social media. The webtoon on which it is based has already been viewed nearly 3 billion times.
In response to the fans’ interest, Disney Plus released the first four episodes of the series a day earlier than the scheduled date of November 4. Starting November 11, two new episodes will be released every Wednesday, and the finale will air on November 25.
The 10-episode series revolves around Emperor Sobishu of the Eastern Empire and Empress Navier.
At one point, their marital relationship breaks down when the emperor falls in love with a maid and wants to marry her. In such a situation, Navier agrees to the emperor’s request to protect her self-respect.
However, she is not one to give up easily. She allies with the rival Western Kingdom’s Prince Henry and continues to outdo her ex-husband in every position.
In this fight, the entire empire is threatened. Shin Mina plays Navier, Joo Ji Hoon plays Sobishu, and Lee Jung Seok plays Henry.
