Tahsif’s female friend sent to jail
A Dhaka court on Friday sent Jerika Tasnim Disha, female friend of former Air Force officer Tahsif Sauri, to jail after she completed seven days of police remand in a murder case filed over his death.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Aminul Islam Junaid passed the order after a hearing on Friday (November 6).
Inspector Firoz Uddin of Tongi River Police Outpost, also the investigation officer of the case, sought an order to keep Disha in jail, saying she might go into hiding if released on bail and could
be needed for further questioning.
In his application, the investigation officer said Disha had been interrogated to uncover the circumstances surrounding the murder and had provided some important information, which investigators were keeping confidential pending verification.
According to the application, Disha told investigators that she went to Nest Bar and Restaurant in Uttara with Tahsif on the night of October 27, before the incident. She had earlier eaten at CP Five Star Snacks several times that evening. Later, she accompanied Tahsif to a motorcycle garage and travelled to different places with him on his motorcycle.
The investigation officer also said Disha had avoided answering several questions and remained silent during interrogation.
Another suspect in the case, Ahmed Shahriar Reza Dip, is currently in police custody on remand. Investigators are cross-checking statements given by Disha and Dip.
The officer said a review of Tahsif’s mobile phone call records had revealed several conversations between him and Disha. Preliminary investigations had also found evidence of her alleged involvement in the incident, the application said.
Disha was arrested from the Kafrul area on October 31. The following day, a court placed her on a four-day remand. She was later granted another three days of remand on November 4.
In the same case, Dip was placed on a four-day remand on October 31, followed by three days on November 3 and another three days on November 5.
Tahsif’s father, KM Enayetul Karim, filed the murder case with Uttarkhan Police Station on the night of October 30, following the recovery of his son’s body.
Tahsif Sauri, who came into the spotlight after recording a video of ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina leaving the country, was found dead in the Turag River. River police recovered his floating body from the Rajabari Ghat area on the afternoon of October 28.
According to the case statement, Tahsif went downstairs from his residence on the evening of October 27 after receiving a call from Dip and left home on his motorcycle.
Dip later told police that he had dinner with Tahsif at a restaurant in Uttara on October 27 before parting ways with him in the House Building area.
Police took Dip into custody for questioning from his residence on Babar Road in Mohammadpur that night. Based on information provided by him, investigators recovered Tahsif’s motorcycle from the Mazar Basti area of Tongi on the morning of October 30.
Dip also admitted that he had accompanied Tahsif to the area, known as a drug hotspot, around midnight, according to the investigation.
