A teacher in Ishwardi, Pabna, was temporarily suspended on allegations of marrying a 14-year-old Class Eight student from the school where he teaches. The school authorities have also formed a five-member committee to investigate the incident.
The decision was taken at an emergency meeting held at Maniknagar Girls’ High School in Ishwardi on Thursday. Taslim Arif Tushar, president of the school’s ad hoc managing committee, confirmed the matter.
He said a five-member investigation committee was formed, headed by Ayesha Akter, a senior assistant teacher at the school. The committee was instructed to investigate the incident thoroughly and submit a report.
According to sources, Mosharraf Hossain Musa, a part-time teacher at Maniknagar Girls’ High School, had allegedly been in a relationship for a long time with a 14-year-old Class Eight student of the same institution.
At one point, the girl went to the teacher’s house demanding marriage, but he initially refused.
Later, the two reportedly got married secretly at midnight on Friday (October 30).
The incident came to light afterwards, triggering widespread discussion, criticism and resentment in the locality.
