Naogaon University gets UGC approval for 2 new depts
Naogaon University has received approval from the University Grants Commission (UGC) to launch academic programmes in English and Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), taking its total number of departments to four.
The Department of English will be placed under the Faculty of Arts, while the CSE department will operate under the Faculty of Science and Engineering.
University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Hasanath Ali said the approval was conveyed in a letter signed by Dr Md Mohibul Ahsan, additional director of the UGC’s Public University Management Division.
Under the conditions set by the UGC in line with the Naogaon University Act, 2023, each department will be allowed to admit up to 40 undergraduate students in every academic year.
The university must also prepare curricula for the two departments and obtain approval from the relevant authorities before launching their academic activities.
Professor Hasanath Ali said the university had already taken the necessary steps to meet the conditions set by the UGC for opening the departments.
At present, academic activities are underway in the Departments of Accounting and Law. With the addition of English and CSE, the university will have four departments.
Meanwhile, the UGC has approved funds for hiring two vehicles for the university — a microbus for teachers and staff and a large bus for students.
According to a UGC memorandum dated 1 November, permission has been granted to hire the vehicles.
The vice-chancellor said the tender process for hiring both the microbus and the large bus had already been completed.
