Crane accident in Moghbazar claims life of Engineer Arif
A tragic crane accident near the Moghbazar Rainbow Crossing has claimed the life of Engineer A.B.M. Ahsan Ullah Arif, raising serious concerns about construction-site safety practices and the lack of proper precautions during heavy machinery operations on public roads.
According to his family, the accident occurred on the morning of 18 October 2026, when a crane ran over Engineer Ahsan Ullah Arif near Moghbazar Rainbow Crossing.
Shockingly, he was reportedly left lying on the road for approximately half an hour without receiving any rescue assistance.
He was eventually taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors had to amputate his injured limb.
His condition subsequently deteriorated, and he was transferred to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). After fighting for his life for five days, he passed away on 23 October 2026.
His tragic death has raised a critical question: Why are heavy construction vehicles allowed to operate alongside regular public traffic without adequate safety arrangements?
A crane is not an ordinary road vehicle.
Its operation requires strict safety measures to protect pedestrians, motorists and other road users.
The family has highlighted several essential safety requirements that should be enforced during crane operations.
