Milton, Jahangir to lead Dhaka North BNP

Dhaka North City Corporation Administrator Shafiqul Islam Khan (Milton) has been named convener of the Dhaka Metropolitan North unit of the BNP, with Dhaka-18 MP S M Jahangir Hossain as member secretary.

The new committee was announced on Sunday night, more than a month after the previous convening committee was dissolved, giving the party’s key organisational unit fresh leadership.

A press release signed by BNP Assistant Office Secretary Muhammad Munir Hossain said a full convening committee must be formed for the unit within the next two weeks.

Who they are
Shafiqul Islam Khan is a vice president of the Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal central committee. He previously served as member secretary of the Dhaka Metropolitan North Jubo Dal, and was the BNP candidate for Dhaka-15 in the 13th parliamentary election.

S M Jahangir Hossain was joint convener of the recently dissolved Dhaka North BNP committee. He earlier served as president of the Dhaka Metropolitan North Jubo Dal.

The dissolved committee
On 30 September, the party dissolved the 51-member convening committee led by Aminul Haque as convener and Mostafa Zaman as member secretary. That decision was also announced in a press release signed by Munir Hossain.
