Cuet teachers’ protest continues despite UGC talks
Teachers at Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (Cuet) have decided to continue their previously announced protest programmes, excluding academic activities, until their demands are met.
The decision was taken at an emergency general meeting of the executive committee of the teachers’ association at the university’s central auditorium around 11:30am on Thursday.
Association President Professor Dr Mohammad Ahsan Ullah chaired the meeting.
Members discussed the association’s talks with a University Grants Commission (UGC) advisory committee on Wednesday and considered the next course of action.
After exchanging views and suggestions, they unanimously decided to continue the announced programmes.
On Wednesday, a six-member UGC advisory committee held discussions with teachers, students, officers and employees in an effort to resolve the deadlock at Cuet and restore normal academic activities.
Meanwhile, students decided on Wednesday to return to classes after a 36-day shutdown.
Classes resumed for three batches of the Department of Urban and Regional Planning, although attendance was low. Classes in most other departments have yet to resume.
Students said they expected all students to return to classes in full on Sunday.
They also said they would continue their movement demanding the reinstatement of the university’s former vice-chancellor.
