1,413 RAJUK plots under investigation

1,074 suspended

A rigorous review and investigation process has been initiated regarding 1,413 plots in the capital’s upscale and prominent residential areas that were allocated based on political considerations between 2009 and 2024.

It has been decided that strict legal action will be taken if any irregularities are uncovered during the investigation.

The Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK)-the Capital Development Authority-has already suspended all activities related to 874 plots in the Purbachal New Town project and 200 plots in the Jhilmil residential area, following the discovery of preliminary evidence of irregularities.

These details and decisions were presented during the second meeting of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Housing and Public Works, held on Sunday (October 25) at the National Parliament House.

The meeting was chaired by the committee’s chairperson, Md. Rezaul Karim Badsha.

According to the Parliament Secretariat, a total of 1,413 plots were allocated based on political considerations between 2009 and 2024 across areas including Gulshan, Banani, Uttara, the Purbachal New Town project, and the Jhilmil residential area.

Of these, the largest share-944 plots-was allocated within the Purbachal project.

A committee, formed in accordance with a High Court Division ruling to examine whether any irregularities or procedural violations occurred during these allocations by RAJUK, has reviewed the relevant documentation and submitted a report to the ministry.

Based on the findings of this report, which indicated initial irregularities, all activities concerning the 874 plots in Purbachal and 200 plots in Jhilmil have been suspended.

A thorough investigation will be conducted into the political motivations and irregularities, and final legal action will be taken regarding these plots following a comprehensive review.
