Grid fault leaves Dhaka in dark
A technical fault in a national grid transmission line disrupted electricity supply to several areas of Dhaka and Chattogram on Tuesday, leaving parts of the capital, including the Secretariat, without power for nearly an hour.
The outage began at 12:43pm after a fault developed in the Meghnaghat-Haripur national grid line, according to several officials at the Power Division.
In an emergency statement, state-owned Power Grid Bangladesh PLC said the affected areas in Dhaka included Gulshan, Rampura, Ulan and Motijheel, along with Bhulta, Haripur and Siddhirganj in Narayanganj.
The Secretariat reportedly remained without electricity for nearly an hour,
the statement added.
Power Grid Bangladesh said restoration work was underway and electricity had already been restored to most of the affected areas.
“Power connections have already been restored in most affected areas. We hope to ensure electricity supply to the remaining areas within a short time,” the statement said.
The company apologised to customers for the temporary inconvenience caused by the disruption.
It added that power supply in northern Bangladesh and other unaffected areas remained normal.
