BD seeks US tech support for grain testing, storage
Food Minister Afroza Khanam has sought technical assistance from the United States to improve food safety, test imported grain quality and strengthen long-term storage facilities in Bangladesh.
She made the request during a courtesy call by US Ambassador to Bangladesh Brent T Christensen at her office at the Secretariat on Sunday, October 25.
The two sides discussed issues of mutual interest, including ways to strengthen Bangladesh-US cooperation on food security.
The minister sought technical assistance and expertise from US specialists to test the quality of imported rice and wheat at Chattogram and Mongla ports.
She also highlighted the challenges Bangladesh faces in storing grain over extended periods because of its climatic conditions and discussed the potential for US support in storage technology and management.
The US ambassador thanked the minister and praised her work, saying the possibility of assistance from American experts to ensure food safety would be considered.
