Youth remanded over comment on PM’s Rajshahi visit
A Dhaka court on Sunday placed a 22-year-old youth on a seven-day remand in a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act over a Facebook comment referring to a “sniper” after a photo of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s visit to Rajshahi was posted online.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sarah Farjana Haque passed the order after police produced Md Abu Bakar Siddique before the court and sought seven days of remand in the case filed with Ramna Police Station.
According to the case documents, three photographs of a bus carrying Prime Minister Tarique Rahman were posted in the Facebook group ‘The Beauty of Rajshahi’ on October 21. In the comment section, an account named ‘MD Abu Bakar Siddique’ wrote: “Alas, there was a great opportunity, only a sniper was missing”.
Law enforcers identified the account user with the help of information technology and arrested Abu Bakar Siddique from Gholharia Dakshinpara under Paba Police Station in Rajshahi Metropolitan City.
