Ctg WASA to supply water to Durga Puja mandaps

Chattogram WASA has announced special water supply arrangements for Durga Puja mandaps facing water shortages in the port city.

CWASA Managing Director Engineer Selim Md Jane Alam said the organisation had instructed its officials to provide water to mandaps experiencing shortages or requiring additional supplies.

Mandap committees can contact the relevant officials or the WASA helpline to request assistance, and necessary arrangements will be made promptly.

Water has already been supplied to several mandaps across Chattogram city in response to requests.

Tankers are being used to deliver water to mandaps that do not have direct WASA connections.

The managing director said the government had made extensive preparations, allocated substantial funds and adopted security measures to ensure the peaceful celebration of Sharadiya Durgotsav, the major annual festival of the Hindu community. Meanwhile, Chattogram WASA said the city’s overall water supply situation remained normal, although complaints of shortages had been reported in some areas. Its engineers were working round the clock to improve the situation and resolve complaints as quickly as possible.

The organisation has also formed eight monitoring teams comprising officials from its revenue and engineering departments to collect outstanding bills.

The teams include executive engineers, revenue officers, revenue supervisors and meter inspectors, who visit customers’ homes on working days to collect arrears.

According to CWASA, the initiative has helped increase revenue collection to a record level.

CWASA reaffirmed its commitment to supporting religious festivals celebrated by people of all faiths and communities and extended its greetings to members of the Hindu community on the occasion of Sharadiya Durgotsav, expressing hope that the celebrations would be joyful and peaceful.
