LGED launches clean-up drive in Bandar to prevent dengue

The Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) in Bandar, Narayanganj, has conducted a special clean-up and mosquito-control campaign to prevent dengue and other mosquito-borne diseases as part of the government’s nationwide cleanliness and awareness programme.

Held under the slogan “Keep Our Surroundings Clean, Stay Healthy Together,” the campaign began with a rally and discussion meeting at the Bandar LGED office on Wednesday (October 14).

As part of the initiative, LGED officials in Bandar urged people from all walks of life not to dump waste indiscriminately, to dispose of rubbish at designated locations, to prevent water from accumulating in and around homes, and to actively participate in cleanliness activities.

Officials and employees of LGED later joined the clean-up operation, removing accumulated waste from the upazila complex and its surrounding areas.

Speaking after the rally, Upazila Engineer SM Samin Ishraq said the initiative was taken in view of the importance of maintaining cleanliness to tackle the growing risk of dengue and other mosquito-borne diseases and to preserve environmental balance.
“Building a clean city is everyone’s responsibility. Public awareness and responsible participation are essential to achieving this goal,” he said.

He stressed the need to stop indiscriminate waste dumping and keep homes, roads and surrounding areas clean. He also urged residents to remain vigilant and ensure that water does not accumulate anywhere, as stagnant water provides breeding grounds for mosquitoes.

Regular cleaning and the destruction of mosquito breeding sites are essential to preventing dengue and other mosquito-borne diseases, he said, calling on everyone to maintain cleanliness at their respective institutions and workplaces.

Among those present at the programme were Sub-Assistant Engineer Md Mizanur Rahman, surveyor Jahangir Alam, accounts officer Masum Mia, other LGED officials and employees, and female workers employed under the Labour Contracting Society (LCS).
