300 coastal families to get emergency food aid
The national humanitarian and development organisation Impact Initiative has distributed emergency food supplies among 300 vulnerable families in Koyra Upazila of Khulna, a coastal region.
The distribution took place on Friday on the grounds of Koyra Darus Sunnah Mohila Dakhil Madrasa.
The programme was funded by MAA International Australia, which has been supporting poor and vulnerable people in Bangladesh since 2018 in partnership with Impact Initiative.
Under the emergency food assistance programme, each family received 25kg of rice, three litres of soybean oil, 2kg of red lentils (masoor dal), 4kg of sugar, 4kg of wheat flour (atta), 2kg of salt, four packets of noodles, 1kg of flattened rice (chira) and 1kg of dates.
The programme was conducted by Impact Initiative representative SA Mukul. Among those present were Dr GM Shafiqul Islam, the organisation’s Admin and Compliance Manager Kazi Md Abu Sufian, Office Executive Shibli and Jashore Regional Representative Nazmul Hossain.
Local dignitaries, including Md Hafizur Rahman and Golam Rabbani, vice-presidents of the Koyra-Paikgachha Development Forum, its Secretary Raihan Kabir and Dr Jinnat Ali, were also present.
The speakers emphasised that standing beside underprivileged and vulnerable people is a humanitarian responsibility.
They said that, alongside government initiatives, private development organisations and social groups should come forward to ensure food security, safe drinking water, sanitation and healthcare for people in coastal areas.
Impact Initiative has been working for disadvantaged people across the country since 2018 and has been supporting communities in Koyra and Paikgachha since 2023. Its activities include skills development, healthcare, water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), orphan care, food security and emergency assistance.
In Koyra and Paikgachha, the organisation has also provided support to people affected by floods and cyclones with assistance from MAA International Australia.
