Dhaka University tops Bangladesh in latest global research ranking

Dhaka University (DU) has been ranked the leading research institution in Bangladesh in the latest global research evaluation jointly released by Stanford University and Netherlands-based publisher Elsevier.

The assessment, published on Wednesday (October 7, 2026), recognised DU’s leading position nationally and included 22 of its faculty members and researchers in the prestigious list of the world’s top two percent scientists, according to a press release issued on Thursday.

The 22 Dhaka University researchers named in the 2026 list are Md Rakibul Hoque, Abdus Salam, Md Mahbubur Rahman, Taslim Ur Rashid, Muhammad Ibrahim Shah, M Rezaul Islam, Suborna Barua, Nepal Chandra Roy, Md Kawser Ahmed, Saikat Mitra, M A B H Susan, Mohammad Moinul Islam, Mohammad Mizanur Rahman, Shaikh Md Mahmudul Islam, Md Abdus Salam, Khondoker Samaher Salem, Mohammad Ferdous, Mohammad Abdul Matin, Md Abdur Razzaque, A S M Maksud Kamal, Md Abdur Rashid and Arka Jyoti Chakraborty.

Expressing satisfaction over the achievement, DU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr A B M Obaidul Islam described the inclusion of the 22 researchers in the list as a matter of immense joy and pride.

He said the recognition of DU as Bangladesh’s top research institution, alongside the inclusion of its faculty members among the world’s top two percent scientists, reflected the quality and international impact of the university’s research.

The Vice-Chancellor congratulated the researchers included in the global list.
He said DU had long played an important role in research and knowledge creation alongside its role as a leading higher education institution in Bangladesh.

According to him, DU researchers are conducting studies on important national and global issues, with their work gaining international recognition.

Professor Obaidul Islam said the university had undertaken various initiatives to expand the scope and improve the quality of research.

He said DU was prioritising the development of research facilities, expanding international collaborations and encouraging young researchers.

The university was also working to enable more DU researchers to contribute to globally impactful research in the future, he added.
