Drug-addicted families sell children in Katiadi
Some drug-addicted families at Uttar Charpukxia in Katiadi village of Kishoreganj are selling their children to raise money for their drugs.
Five children from four families were sold at different times for different amounts of money, said local sources.
According to local sources, Dulal Mia’s son Zakir Hossain and his wife Farzana’s newborn son were sold for Tk 60,000 on September 2, Judge Mia’s son Saddam Hossain’s two children born to his two wives were sold for Tk 150,000 and Tk 20,000. Asad Mia’s son Zakir Hossain sold his child for Tk 77,000 and Asad Mia, son of the late Mofiz Uddin, sold his child for Tk 200,000
There are allegations that the people to whom they were sold have resold these children elsewhere for a higher price, raising serious concerns about the current status and safety of these children.
Several residents of Charpuksia village, including Joynal Mia, Bakul Mia, village police Dulal Mia and Nurunnahar, complained that the spread of drugs in the village has now reached a terrifying level.
Drug-addicted parents are selling their children for money and consuming drugs with that money.
No one dares to protest out of fear that their young children will also be sold. Jalalpur Union Parishad (UP) Chairman Md. Rafiqul Islam said, “The drug menace has taken a terrible shape in Uttar Charpuksia village.
