Inmate dies in Bagerhat jai

An inmate named Chan Mia Fakir (44) died after food got stuck in his throat at Bagerhat District Jail. Food got stuck in his throat while eating on Friday morning.

He was later taken to Bagerhat 250-bed District Hospital where the physician on duty of the emergency department declared him dead after examination.

The deceased, Chan Mia Fakir, was the son of late HelalUddin Fakir of Uttar Fulhata village in MorrelganjUpazila of Bagerhat. He was imprisoned in Bagerhat District Jail under detention number 4241/26. A case has been registered against him at Morelganj Police Station.

Asim Kumar Samaddar, Superintendent of the 250-bed Bagerhat District Hospital, said, “A prisoner was brought to the hospital from the prison in an unwell condition. After conducting necessary tests, the emergency department physician declared him dead. Necessary procedures are being followed regarding his death.”

Bagerhat District Jail Superintendent Md. Mostafa Kamal said that while eating food in the morning, the inmate got food stuck in his throat. After learning about the matter, the prison guards quickly took him to Bagerhat Sadar Hospital.

There, the physician declared him dead. The matter of his death has been reported to the concerned authorities and Morrelganj Police Station. The body was handed over to the family after completing all legal procedures.
