Bangladesh healthcare business seminar held in Tokyo
A Bangladesh Healthcare Business Seminar was held at the Bangladesh Embassy in Tokyo, Japan, on Friday to explore cooperation, investment and technological partnership between Bangladesh and Japan in the healthcare sector.
The seminar was jointly organised by Bangladesh Embassy in Tokyo, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), reports BSS.
Members of Japanese business organisations, investors and representatives of the healthcare sector joined the seminar.
A video message from State Minister for Health and Family Welfare Dr MA Muhit was screened where he highlighted various measures taken by the present government to improve the quality of healthcare services in Bangladesh.
Seeking Japanese cooperation and technological partnership to achieve universal health coverage and make Bangladesh’s healthcare sector future-oriented and sustainable, he said Japanese investment and expertise would play a vital role in modernising the healthcare sector and ensuring international-standard services in implementing the government’s future plans.
Speaking at the seminar, Bangladesh Ambassador to Japan Daud Ali said Japan has long been one of Bangladesh’s development partners.
He thanked JICA and Japan for their continued support in maternal and child healthcare, community healthcare, immunisation programmes, health infrastructure and human resource development.
The ambassador said Bangladesh with a population of more than 17 crore, has growing demand for specialised healthcare, modern hospital infrastructure, diagnostics, medical technologies and skilled human resources.
He however expressed hope that trained Bangladeshi healthcare workers could play an important role in meeting the demand for nurses and caregivers in the services and healthcare sector for Japan’s elderly population.
Daud also invited Japanese investment and joint ventures in Bangladesh’s pharmaceutical industry, biotechnology, vaccines and active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) production.
Additional Secretary of the Health Services Division of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare Shah Imam Ali Reza and Director General of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Professor Dr Pravath Chandra Biswas made two presentations highlighting the current state and prospects of Bangladesh’s healthcare sector.
JICA Director General of the South Asia Department Tetsuya Yamada, Deputy Director of South Asia Department-4 Hiroki Sasaki and JETRO Senior Director for Global Strategy (Southwest Asia) Yuji Ando discussed Bangladesh-Japan cooperation in healthcare, development and investment opportunities in Bangladesh’s healthcare sector.
Senior Executive Officer of Euglena Co., Ltd. Nao Nitta shared the company’s business experience in Bangladesh.
The seminar concluded with a question-and-answer session followed by a networking session.
