Earlier, a case was filed against Jamaat leader Major (retd) Akhteruzzaman over allegations of creating disorder at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, obstructing government duties and physically assaulting an on-duty security official over a shortage of luggage trolleys.
The case was filed late Thursday night by airport security officer Md Shahriar Alam Sajib with the Airport Police Station. The case number is 6.
According to the First Information Report (FIR), a shortage of trolleys and delays in collecting luggage occurred around 10:10am on October 1 at luggage belt No.
8 due to heavy passenger pressure from a flight (BG-338) arriving from Medina. As passengers became agitated, Dhaka-5 MP Mohammad Kamal Hossain called the airport’s Executive Director Group Captain SM Ragib Samad to the spot.
While he was calmly trying to bring the situation under control, Major (retd) Akhteruzzaman allegedly became agitated and moved aggressively towards him.
He allegedly hurled abusive remarks at the executive director and publicly threatened him, saying, “I will beat you up” and “I will drag you out by the neck.”
The FIR also alleged that he made highly indecent remarks about the Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism.
The situation became more tense when protocol assistants accompanying Akhteruzzaman began recording videos on mobile phones in a restricted area of the airport.
When security supervisor Warrant Officer Mohammad Kamal Uddin, who was on duty there, asked them to stop recording, Major Akhteruzzaman allegedly became furious, verbally abused him and at one point physically assaulted him.
He also allegedly threw bottles of holy Zamzam water collected by other passengers from a trolley, causing damage, and behaved aggressively towards a representative of Biman Bangladesh Airlines.
The complainant alleged that such actions obstructed government officials from performing their duties at a sensitive and restricted facility and created a serious risk of disrupting normal order and security at the airport.
