BMPA gets new executive committee

Bangladesh Medical Physics Association (BMPA) has formed its new Executive Committee for 2026–27 at its Annual General Meeting (AGM) held on Wednesday at the National Institute of Nuclear Medicine and Allied Sciences (NINMAS) on the Bangladesh Medical University campus in Dhaka.

Renowned nuclear scientist Prof. Dr. Md. Shakilur Rahman, former Chief Scientific Officer and Director of the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission (BAEC), has been elected president of the association, while Prof. Dr. Md. Nahid Hossain, Chief Scientific Officer of BAEC, has been elected secretary.

Dr. A.K.M. Mizanur Rahman, Chief Scientific Officer of BAEC, was elected treasurer. Dr. Humayra Ferdous of the American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) will serve as publication secretary, while Prof. Dr. Abdul Kadir of the University of Dhaka was elected scientific secretary. Other members were also elected to the new committee.

Prof. Dr. Shakilur Rahman has been associated with BMPA since 1997 and is recognised for his contributions to medical physics, radiation dosimetry, radiation protection and radiotherapy services for cancer care in Bangladesh.

With more than 25 years of professional experience in radiotherapy and medical physics, he has also played a key role in strengthening national dosimetry, calibration and quality-assurance services.

Prof. Dr. Nahid Hossain has likewise contributed to the development of medical physics, radiotherapy, radiation dosimetry, quality assurance, research and professional training, particularly through his long standing work at NINMAS.

The newly elected committee said it would focus on strengthening medical physics education and research, professional development, radiation safety, radiotherapy quality assurance and patient safety. It also plans to promote greater international collaboration in the field in the coming year.
