6 Teams 6 Coaches finalised
A new chapter is set to begin in Bangladesh’s domestic cricket. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has introduced several new initiatives for the upcoming tournament, known as the ‘Domestic Three Trophy’ or ‘D3’.
Separate events for three formats under a single tournament, the selection of icon cricketers, and the choice of coaching panels via a draft-such an arrangement had never been seen before in domestic cricket.
It’s not just the cricketers; the coaching staff has also been recruited through a draft.
With the ‘Domestic Three Trophy’ in mind, the six teams have selected their Head Coaches, Assistant Coaches, physiotherapists, strength and conditioning Coaches, and performance Analysts.
The management draft took place in the press conference room of the Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Tuesday.
Each team selected five coaching staff members through the draft. Teams will select their own team managers and media managers, though these appointments require approval from the BCB.
In the draft, BCB officials first drew lots from a box to determine the teams. Each team drew lots from another box to decide the order in which they could select their Head Coach or other personnel.
S-Bluestar has selected Sohel Islam as Head Coach. Acme has chosen Rajin Saleh; Citizens Bank, Mizanur Rahman Babul; Fortune, Mohammad Salahuddin; Seven Rings Cement, Talha Jubair; and Walton has selected Abdur Razzak.
Several well-known names feature among the Assistant Coaches as well.
S-Bluestar has selected Salahuddin Ahmed Ujjal and Ashiqur Rahman Majumder.
Through the draft, Walton has picked Tushar Imran and Dollar Mahmud; Citizens Bank, Nazmul Hossain and Mohammad Selim; Acme, Tareq Aziz Khan and Faisal Hossain Dickens; Fortune, Mohammad Ashraful and Abdul Karim Jewel; and Seven Rings Cement, Hannan Sarkar and Humayun Kabir Shahin as Assistant Coaches.
The journey of ‘D-Three’ will kick off with a T20 match at the Jibanananda Das Cricket Stadium in Barishal on December 15.
This tournament will mark the stadium’s fresh start following its renovation. The BCB plans to gradually expand ‘D-Three’ to all divisions across the country.
The four-day format will take place next January. 50-over cricket will get underway in May.
Across all three formats, a team can select a maximum of 23 cricketers from the draft. The BCB has not yet announced the date for the player draft.
