3 injured as hospital roof falls
Three patients, including one who sustained serious injuries, were hurt when plaster and pieces of brick suddenly fell from the dilapidated roof of Chandpur 250-Bedded General Hospital onto them in the surgical ward on Tuesday noon.
On being informed, Hospital Superintendent Dr Mahbubur Rahman, along with resident and duty doctors, rushed to the ward. They removed the fallen debris, reassured the patients and provided treatment to the injured.
Hospital patients said this was not the first such incident at the hospital.
Talking to the New Nation, Hospital Superintendent Dr Mahbubur Rahman said vulnerable sections of the roof of the decades-old hospital building had been identified and repair work was being undertaken to ensure patients’ safety.
A few months ago, a man was injured when plaster and brick pieces fell beside the hospital’s emergency room.
About a year ago, a pregnant woman was injured after plaster and brick pieces fell from the dilapidated roof of the third floor of the hospital’s maternity ward. Her newborn baby was fortunately unharmed.
