BD calls for stronger action against trafficking, migrant smuggling

Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Md Asaduzzaman has called for coordinated efforts and stronger legal and institutional mechanisms to combat human trafficking, forced labour and migrant smuggling.

“Bangladesh is committed to ensuring that economic integration and global labour mobility take place with full respect for workers’ and human rights and that effective protection against exploitation is ensured,” he said.

Asaduzzaman made the remarks while participating as a panellist in a high-level thematic discussion titled “From Source to Shelf: Combating Human Trafficking in Global Supply Chains” in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

The discussion was held under the 15th UN Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, according to an official release issued here.

The law minister highlighted various initiatives taken by Bangladesh to strengthen its legal and institutional framework for combating human trafficking, forced labour and migrant smuggling.
He stressed the enactment of the Human Trafficking and Migrant Smuggling Prevention and Suppression Act, 2026, along with measures to strengthen the National Referral Mechanism.
He also highlighted plans to develop a digital platform for managing data related to human trafficking and enhance protection mechanisms for migrant workers and victims of trafficking.
The discussion brought together representatives from governments and international organisations to address human trafficking and forced labour in global supply chains.
The UAE Minister of Justice, executive directors of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and INTERPOL, and other senior representatives from government and the private sector also participated as panellists.
