Prue calls for sustainable, eco-friendly tourism system

Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Minister Sa Ching Prue has called for a planned, sustainable, safe and environment-friendly tourism system to unlock Bangladesh’s vast tourism potential.

He made the call while addressing the closing ceremony of the three-day 13th Asian Tourism Fair (ATF) 2026 at International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB) in the capital on Sunday.

Prue highlighted the tourism potential of the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) and said local communities should be directly involved in tourism development so that they could benefit from the sector.

He also stressed the need for stronger coordination among relevant ministries and agencies to protect the environment and develop tourism infrastructure.

The minister said the hills, forests, lakes and waterfalls of Rangamati, Bandarban and Khagrachhari, along with the diverse cultures of different ethnic communities, offered immense opportunities for developing eco-tourism, cultural tourism and adventure tourism. Secretary of the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism Fahmida Akhtar attended the closing ceremony as the guest of honour. Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation Chairman Md Shamimuzzaman and Bangladesh Tourism Board Chief Executive Officer Barrister Mutasim Billah Farooqi spoke as special guests. They praised the success of this year’s fair and stressed the importance of increasing domestic and foreign investment in the tourism sector.

Asian Tourism Fair Chairman and Parjatan Bichitra Editor Mohiuddin Helal said tourism could develop through partnership and mutual understanding.
