Questions raises about Joty’s recent performance
Old discussions surrounding Nigar Sultana Joty, the Captain of the Bangladesh women’s cricket team, has resurfaced.
On-field leadership, conduct towards teammates, team selection, and the dressing-room atmosphere-questions have been raised about these matters at various times.
As a Captain, questions are being raised not only about Joty’s on-field performance but also about her individual display and her role within the team. An aggressive tone is consistently evident in Joty’s public remarks.
There has long been a complaint about her loud, vocal instructions to fielders before every delivery often create counterproductive pressure.
A similar scene was witnessed during the match against South Africa in Visakhapatnam, India during the last ODI World Cup.
Questions were raised about Joty’s on-field behavior after the team lost the match despite coming very close to victory. Similar scenario was observed in this year’s Asia Cup as well.
Bangladesh missed several easy opportunities in the field during the Asia Cup semi-final against India.
Allegations regarding matters off the field have raised the most significant questions concerning Joty. There was talk of dissatisfaction within the team regarding her conduct.
It is alleged that she cultivated her own sphere of influence, sidelining senior players and aligning himself with a specific group of juniors.
There has been much discussion at various times regarding the departure of Jahanara Alam and former captain Rumana Ahmed from the team, as well as Joty’s conduct towards Salma Khatun-one of the biggest names in women’s cricket in the country.
Joty became the Captain of the Bangladesh women’s team in 2021.
According to the complainants, she began establishing a sphere of influence within just a year to a year and a half of assuming the role.
Allegations also exist that she sidelined experienced cricketers to bring in a succession of new players, keeping them within a specific inner circle.
Joty’s personal performance as Captain also offers little room for optimism.
She has not scored a single half-century in her last ten matches; her highest score was 36. Her scores in the last ten innings are 19, 0, 27, 36, 32, 32, 10, 4, 23, and 19.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has not wish to make a decision just yet; a decision regarding Joty’s future may be reached after the upcoming Asian Games.
