Rumin Farhana complains to HC on DAG over FB post

Barrister Rumin Farhana, an independently elected member of parliament from Brahmanbaria-2 constituency, has complained to the High Court against Deputy Attorney General (DAG) Nazrul Islam Choton for making a Facebook post referring to her as “Lady Mir Jafar.”

She made the complaint before a High Court bench comprising Justice Kazi Md Ijarul Haque Akanda and Justice Nasrin Akter on Monday,

Barrister Rumin Farhana was the lawyer for a case listed at serial No. 36 in the day’s cause list. DAG Nazrul Islam Choton was representing the state in the case.

When the case was called for hearing, Barrister Rumin Farhana came before the bench and brought the DAG’s Facebook post to the court’s attention.

She told the court, “Deputy Attorney General Nazrul Islam Choton made the Facebook post out of anger against me. I would request the court not to allow him to appear for the state in any of my cases.

If he conducts the hearing, he may argue against me out of personal resentment. This could harm my client.”

The court then asked Assistant Attorney General Md Sagar Hossain to conduct the hearing instead of DAG Nazrul Islam Choton.

Assistant Attorney General Md Sagar Hossain told the court that the accused in the case was a habitual offender and had previously faced 11 cases involving yaba.

The court subsequently ordered that the case be heard after the court vacation.
Meanwhile, Barrister Rumin Farhana has submitted a written complaint against DAG Nazrul Islam Choton to the Attorney General’s Office.

In her written complaint addressed to the Attorney General, she said, “With deep regret and resentment, I would like to draw your attention to the fact that Deputy Attorney General (DAG) Nazrul Islam Choton, while holding an important legal position of the state, posted a highly objectionable, defamatory and offensive status targeting me from his personal Facebook account on 11 September, 2026.”

She said he wrote: “Lady Mir Jafar Rumin Farhana Apa is forgetting the past very quickly.”

“Such threatening, indecent, offensive and deliberate conduct by a serving government law officer is not only insulting to me as a woman and a public representative, but also seriously undermines the image and professionalism of the Attorney General’s Office,” she said.

“The Attorney General’s Office represents Bangladesh, not any political party,” she added.

She further said that such discourteous use of social media by a DAG representing the state was unacceptable under any circumstances.

She therefore requested the Attorney General to consider the matter seriously and take departmental and appropriate legal action against Deputy Attorney General Nazrul Islam Choton.
