DSCC conducts day-long dengue prevention drive

Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) on Thursday conducted daylong cleanliness and mosquito control activities in areas identified as dengue-risk zones in its pre-monsoon survey.

The activities were part of the city corporation’s ongoing efforts to contain dengue, according to a DSCC press release.

As part of the programme, the DSCC conducted a special cleanliness and dengue prevention campaign from the Rupayan Tower area in Banglamotor to Shahbagh intersection.

DSCC Chief Executive Officer Md Khaybar Rahman attended the campaign as chief guest and inspected and supervised the activities on the spot. During the drive, accumulated waste was removed from roads and footpaths while unclean areas were cleaned.

Potential mosquito breeding grounds were identified and destroyed, and stagnant water was examined for the presence of Aedes mosquito larvae.

During the inspection, Khaybar Rahman said overall cleanliness and public awareness should receive equal importance alongside mosquito control to contain dengue.

“DSCC sanitation workers are working continuously in two shifts every day-from 4am to 9am and from noon to evening,” he said.

The DSCC chief executive officer said daylong cleanliness and mosquito control activities were continuing in areas identified as dengue-risk zones in the pre-monsoon survey.

He also urged city dwellers to keep their homes, institutions and surrounding areas clean, stressing that citizens should play a responsible role alongside the city corporation’s efforts to prevent dengue.
