DMP arrests 542 in 24-hour anti-crime drives

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested 542 people and filed 51 cases in the past 24 hours on Friday as part of its regular anti-crime drives across the capital.

According to a DMP statement, the highest number of arrests, 193, was made in the Mirpur Division, followed by 91 in Tejgaon, 60 in Wari, 52 in Motijheel and 42 in Uttara.

Police also arrested 41 people in Gulshan, 28 in Lalbagh and 22 in Ramna. The Detective Branch (DB) arrested 12 people, while one person was arrested by the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit.

During the drives, police seized 45.49 kilograms of cannabis and 3,291 yaba tablets, along with a shot-gun, a car, 15 mobile phone sets and a pair of handcuffs.

Law enforcement personnel also rescued a victim during the anti-crime campaign, the DMP said.

The drives were conducted in different police station areas across the capital, while legal proceedings against those arrested are underway, according to the statement.
