DSCC provides Tk19.8 lakh grant to 168 Durga Puja mandaps
Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) on Tuesday handed over Tk19.8 lakh in grants to representatives of 168 Durga Puja mandaps in its area ahead of Sharadiya Durga Puja.
The grant distribution programme was held at the Nagar Bhaban auditorium in the afternoon.
DSCC Administrator Abdus Salam handed over the grant money to the presidents and general secretaries of the Puja mandaps as the chief guest.
DSCC Chief Executive Officer Md Khaybar Rahman chaired the programme. Speaking at the event, Abdus Salam stressed the need for people from all sections of society to work together to protect and advance the country.
“To protect the country and take it forward, people from all walks of life must work together. Bangladesh belongs to all of us. The greatest identity of the people of this country is that we are all Bangladeshis,” he said. The DSCC administrator assured Puja organisers of necessary preparations across the city ahead of the festival.
He said special measures would be taken to ensure cleanliness throughout the city during Sharadiya Durga Puja.
“Special initiatives will be taken to ensure overall cleanliness across the city on the occasion of Sharadiya Durga Puja. The issues of keeping streetlights within the boundaries of each Puja mandap operational and cleaning drains and sewers will be resolved on an urgent basis before the Puja,” he said.
He also announced that a 24-hour control room would be opened at Nagar Bhaban three days before the Puja.
Gopal Chandra Debnath, president of the Mahanagar Sarbajanin Puja Committee, praised the DSCC initiative.
“The bigger issue than the amount of the grant is that Dhaka South City Corporation has invited representatives of all Puja mandaps in the city and provided this recognition and appreciation. This has multiplied our joy during the Puja,” he said.
Representatives of all Puja mandaps in the DSCC area and senior officials of the city corporation attended the programme.
