Measles-related deaths reach 997

Three children died with measles-like symptoms in the 24 hours until 8am Monday, raising Bangladesh’s combined confirmed and suspected measles-related death toll to 997 this year.
The latest fatalities were classified as suspected measles deaths, with no new confirmed measles deaths reported during the period, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The number of suspected measles deaths has now reached 897, while confirmed deaths remain at 100.
The country also recorded 1,156 new suspected measles cases during the 24-hour period, taking the cumulative number to 165,304.
Meanwhile, 60 new laboratory-confirmed infections were reported, bringing the total number of confirmed measles cases to 19,756.
Since March 15 this year, 145,270 patients with suspected measles have been hospitalised nationwide, DGHS data showed.
Of them, 139,831 have recovered, indicating the continued pressure on health facilities amid the outbreak.
