No hawkers allowed from Zero Point to Sadarghat

Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Administrator Md. Abdus Salam has announced that hawkers will no longer be allowed to operate on the road from Zero Point to Sadarghat in the capital.

He made the announcement on Thursday while inaugurating a tree-planting programme on the metro rail median from the Education Building to the Daily Bangla intersection.

Speaking at the event, Salam urged hawkers to vacate the area voluntarily before the authorities take action against them. As an alternative, he announced plans to introduce a night market in Motijheel, where hawkers will be allowed to conduct business after regular office hours.

The DSCC administrator said the tree-planting initiative is part of the government’s environmental protection efforts. He said trees would gradually be planted beneath flyovers across the city to improve the urban environment.

Salam also urged business owners and office employees to dispose of their waste only at designated dumping points and warned against indiscriminate waste disposal.

The DSCC authorities are expected to take further steps to keep major roads and public spaces free from unauthorised hawking and maintain a cleaner environment in the capital.
