President pledges action on RMG woes

President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Wednesday stressed the need to address existing challenges in Bangladesh’s ready-made garment (RMG) industry as sector leaders sought his cooperation in resolving longstanding problems.

The BGMEA delegation briefed the President on the problems currently confronting Bangladesh’s garment industry and sought his cooperation in resolving the issues.

The issue came up during a meeting at Bangabhaban, where a delegation of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), led by its President Mahmud Hasan Khan, paid a courtesy call on the President.

President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir assured the delegation that necessary measures would be taken to address their concerns.

He said the government was working to tackle mismanagement and irregularities that had persisted in the garment industry for a long time.

“The government is making its utmost efforts to resolve the existing problems as soon as possible,” he said.

The President’s remarks came as the BGMEA delegation highlighted the difficulties facing the country’s key export-oriented industry and sought institutional support to overcome them.

The meeting also focused on BATEXPO 2026, with the BGMEA delegation inviting the President to attend its closing ceremony as the chief guest.

The closing ceremony of the 25th BATEXPO 2026 is scheduled to take place on November 19, 2026, at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre.

The President expressed hope that he would be able to attend the event.
