Land State Minister finds absenteeism at N’ganj offices

State Minister for Land Barrister Mir Mohammad Helal Uddin found several officials and employees absent despite their attendance being marked during surprise visits to two land offices in Narayanganj on Monday.

The minister visited the Narayanganj Sadar Assistant Commissioner (Land) Office and the Siddhirganj Revenue Circle Office, both located in the Khanpur area, on Monday morning.

During the inspections, he examined various activities of the offices, including the quality of public services, preservation of official records and documents, and overall administrative operations.

He expressed dissatisfaction after finding several officials and employees absent from their offices despite having already signed the attendance register.

“Many employees have already marked their attendance even though they are not present in the office. This is absolutely unacceptable.

The people are the true owners of the country, and it is the responsibility of government officials and employees to serve them, not a favour,” the state minister said.

He said public services must be ensured through punctuality, sincerity and a strong sense of responsibility.

“Our Prime Minister goes to the office before 9am. If you behave like this, how can we ensure proper services? Any negligence in carrying out duties at government offices will not be tolerated,” he told the officials.

The issue of security at the land offices also came up during the inspection.

The state minister said several female officials were simultaneously performing administrative and judicial responsibilities, adding that necessary measures would be taken to ensure their security.

The minister said he had collected necessary information during the inspection and that administrative action would be taken over any irregularities.

However, he stressed that the solution should not be limited to disciplinary measures, saying a change in the mindset of government officials and employees was also necessary.

He further said ensuring hassle-free and proper public services at government offices require officials and employees to demonstrate accountability, sincerity and punctuality.
