‘Govt committed to people-focused dev’

The government is committed to delivering people-focused development and meeting public expectations, Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister M. Rashiduzzaman Millat said on Monday.

“The government is determined to work for the welfare and development of the people.

To achieve this, public representatives and government officials must make necessary sacrifices and work within their respective areas of responsibility,” he said.

The minister was speaking as the chief guest at a coordination meeting on law and order, drug control, good governance, transparency and accountability, implementation of the election manifesto, and monitoring of public welfare and development programmes at the conference room of the Mymensingh Deputy Commissioner’s Office on Monday.

He stressed the need for coordinated efforts by the administration and public representatives to maintain law and order, curb drug-related activities, ensure good governance and accountability, and implement the government’s election commitments.

“If we can fulfil our election commitments, people will see that their expectations have been met. Otherwise, they will judge our performance,” Millat said.

He also called for greater commitment from officials to ensure that ongoing development projects are implemented transparently, efficiently and within the stipulated timeframe.

The minister urged authorities to remain particularly vigilant against drug trafficking and smuggling, saying these areas require the highest level of caution.

Presiding over the meeting, Mymensingh Deputy Commissioner Md Saifur Rahman said government departments and law enforcement agencies in the district were working together to improve the law and order situation and ensure transparency in the implementation of development projects.

He called for stronger coordination and collective efforts to translate the aspirations of the people into reality.

Officials from various government departments, law enforcement agencies and public representatives attended the meeting.

The participants reviewed the district’s law and order situation, drug control measures, governance, transparency, accountability, and the progress of development and public welfare programmes.

Millat has recently been assigned responsibility for monitoring and coordinating law and order, corruption and drug control, good governance, and development activities in Mymensingh, Sherpur and Netrokona districts.
