Son Megh meets Chief Prosecutor

Maher Sarwar Megh, son of slain journalist couple Sagar Sarwar and Meherun Runi, visited the International Crimes Tribunal to meet Chief Prosecutor Mohammad Aminul Islam and inquire about the progress of the Sagar-Runi murder case.

Megh went to the International Crimes Tribunal on Sunday afternoon, 30 August.

Meanwhile, Chief Prosecutor Mohammad Aminul Islam of the International Crimes Tribunal said investigators have found a possible “connection” between a cultural figure and the murder of journalist couple Sagar Sarwar and Meherun Runi.

He said the lead was found while reviewing call detail records (CDRs) during the investigation of another case. However, the chief prosecutor did not disclose the identity of the individual in the interest of the investigation.

He made the disclosure while responding to questions from journalists at a press conference held at his office on Sunday on the occasion of International Day of the Disappeared.

Aminul Islam said the Sagar-Runi murder case is currently being investigated by the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI), adding that the tribunal’s investigation agency is not directly investigating the case.

He said the lead related to the Sagar-Runi murder was discovered while investigating another case.

It may be mentioned that on the night of February 11, 2012, Sagar Sarwar, news editor of Maasranga Television, and Meherun Runi, a senior reporter at ATN Bangla, were murdered at their rented apartment in West Rajabazar in the capital.
