Sammilito Islami Bank confce held
State-owned Shariah-based SammilitoIslami Bank PLC organized a conference titled “Customer First: Payment and Service Excellence” with the objective of ensuring the highest level of customer services, restoring normal banking operations, and further improving the quality of customer-friendly banking services.
Abedur Rahman Sikder, Managing Director of the bank addressedas Chief Guest in the conference recently held at the bank’s Corporate Head Office, Dhaka.
Additional Managing Director, Deputy Managing Directors, Senior Executives of the Head Office, and Branch Managers of various branches located in Dhaka City physically attended the conference.
In addition, approximately 16,000 officials from different branches, sub-branches, and other workplaces across the country participated in the conference through digital platform.
The conference provided necessary guidance to the officials on making the bank’s overall operations more dynamic, disciplined, transparent, customer-friendly, and service-oriented by giving the highest priority to customer service and normal banking transactions.
In the same time, special emphasis was given on restoring customer confidence, ensuring prompt and hassle-free services, and strengthening professionalism and accountability in the bankingactivities.
Managing Director Abedur Rahman Sikder in his address of Chief Guest said”SammilitoIslami Bank is the country’s first state-owned Shariah-based bank and one of the country’s largest banking institutions in terms of capital base.
From this bank, expectations of the government, regulatory authorities, policymakers, depositors, customers, and the people of the country are extremely high.Each and every one of us must work collectively to fulfill these expectations.”
He said, every officials of the bank must perform their responsibilities with the highest level of professionalism, integrity, humanity, transparency, and accountability by properly complying with Shariah principles, applicable laws, Bangladesh Bank directives, and banking rules and regulations.
He urged everyone to give the highest priority to the interests and rights of customers and ensure an environment of trust at every stage of banking service.
The Managing Director said, Customer confidence is the greatest asset of a bank. Therefore, we must restore and further strengthen customer confidence by providing Shariah-based, modern, technology-driven, and excellent banking services.
He also provided necessary directions to the concerned officials to undertake effective and practical initiatives to achieve these objectives.
He further said that any form of irregularity, fraud, negligence, harassment, or unnecessary customer suffering must be strictly prevented in customer service.
By declaring a “zero-tolerance” policy against such practices, he said every interaction with customers and every stage of service to be delivered must reflect the bank’s professionalism and core values.
The Managing Director said that the Government, Bangladesh Bank, Policymakers, Board of Directors, Bank Management Authorities and all relevant Stakeholders are working together to restore the confidence of depositors of SammilitoIslami Bank, ensure their financial security and gradually resume normal banking operations.
He added that as per decision of the Government and the Bangladesh Bank, there will be no haircut on the profits of customers account.
Under the Central Bank’s scheme,customers can withdraw any amount with regular profitsfrom their active individual accounts (Al-Wadiah Current Account, Mudaraba Savings Account, and various Mudaraba Term Deposit Accounts)through a written application to the bankfor their emergency needs.
It is mentionable that customers who want to exit due to greater exigencies by closing their Mudaraba Term Deposit Accounts, can exitany time from 1 September 2026 onward through a written declaration by withdrawing only the initial principal deposit amount of their accounts.
In this case, they will not get any profit. But the bank will bear the annual excise duty already deducted from these accounts so that the customers can get full amount of theirinitialdeposit.
The Managing Director expressed hope that with the cooperation of the Government and Bangladesh Bank, the normal operations of SammilitoIslami Bank will be started very soon. In that case, there will be no haircut on the customers’ profits and the customers will be able to make normal transactions with great confidence.
By assuring the bank’s existing customers, the Managing Director said, through the collective efforts of all stakeholders, we believe thatSammilitoIslami Bank will recover rapidly and become capable of providing the expected and quality banking services to its customers.
He urged the bank’s officials to work with dedication, integrity and responsibility, andemphasize on achieving customer satisfaction and confidence by every activity of the bank.
