BADC holds workshop to finalise seed distribution plan for Rabi season

The Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) has held a two-day workshop to finalise its strategy and action plan for distributing Boro paddy, wheat and potato seeds during the upcoming Rabi season.

The workshop was held at the seminar hall of the BADC headquarters, with officials from seed distribution divisions in different regions and heads of divisions and wings at the headquarters attending.

Organised by the BADC Seed Distribution Division, the workshop began on August 26 and continued until August 27, 2026.

Officials attending the workshop stressed the importance of agriculture and farmers to the country’s overall development and economy.

They said agriculture remained the driving force of the country’s economy and that sustainable development would not be possible without maintaining the progress of agriculture and improving farmers’ livelihoods.

The officials also stressed the need to ensure that high-quality seeds of different crops reach farmers more efficiently and on time as part of the government’s efforts to develop modern and smart agricultural management.

They said all prescribed steps, from seed production to supply, must be properly followed to ensure a reliable supply of quality seeds.

Alongside quality seed production, measures must also be taken to ensure that region-specific crop seeds are delivered to farmers before the beginning of the season in line with local agricultural demand, officials said.

The workshop also emphasised ensuring that farmers receive seeds at government-fixed prices without facing any form of harassment.

Participants stressed the need to accelerate monitoring activities with greater responsibility in line with the directives of BADC Chairman Md Azizul Islam so that farmers can obtain the required seeds smoothly and on time.

The workshop included a presentation on seed distribution strategies and action plans by Md Selim Hossain, additional general manager of the Seed Distribution Division.

The workshop brought together field-level officials and senior officials from BADC’s headquarters to coordinate preparations for the upcoming Rabi season and ensure effective seed distribution across the country.
