NCP announces mayoral candidates

The National Citizen Party (NCP) has nominated Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan as its mayoral candidate for Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) and Nasiruddin Patwary for Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) in the upcoming city corporation elections.

NCP Convener and Opposition Chief Whip Nahid Islam announced the nominations on Sunday at coordination meetings with prospective councillor candidates from different wards of the two city corporations. The meetings, held at the party’s temporary office in Bangla Motor in the capital, focused on the selection of suitable councillor candidates, identification of ward-level civic problems and measures to address them effectively, according to a party media statement issued in the evening.

Nahid instructed party leaders and prospective candidates to give priority to local civic issues as part of their election preparations.

He also urged party leaders to maintain regular communication with the families of those killed or injured during the July mass uprising.

Nahid further instructed party leaders to remain vigilant against what he described as alleged sabotage and subversive activities by the Awami League, whose activities are currently banned.

NCP Dhaka South metropolitan unit Convener Ishaq Sarkar and Dhaka North metropolitan unit Convener Ariful Islam Adib, along with leaders from different levels of the party, attended the meetings.
