6 shops gutted in Tangail fire
Six shops were completely gutted in a devastating fire at Paujan Bazar in Kalihati upazila of Tangail on Sunday night. The blaze caused an estimated loss of around Tk 1.65 million.
The fire broke out at around midnight in the Paujan Bazar area under Sahadebpur Union.
According to locals, the fire originated from an electrical short circuit at two poultry feed shops owned by Sajal Chandra Saha and Goutam Kumar Deb. It quickly spread to adjacent establishments.
The affected shops included the poultry feed outlets of Sajal Chandra Saha and Goutam Kumar Deb, Babu’s television repair shop, Abdul Kader’s footwear store, Rajib Kumar’s salon, Sohel Rana’s poultry feed shop, and Sadhan Chandra Saha’s grocery and general merchandise store.
Ataur Rahman, acting station officer of Elenga Fire Service and Civil Defence, said they received the report at 12:08am and reached the spot within about 10 minutes.
An eight-member team brought the fire under control after nearly an hour of efforts.
He said an electrical short circuit was initially suspected to have caused the fire. However, the exact cause of the incident and the extent of the damage are still being assessed.
On receiving the information, fire service and Civil Defence personnel from Kalihati and Elenga rushed to the scene and brought the blaze under control. Preliminary estimates put the total damage at around Tk 1.65 million.
