Tigers lose to Aussies in second Test

Bangladesh Cricket team lost to Australia Cricket team by an innings and 51 runs in the second Test on day 2 at Great Barrier Reef Arena in Mackay of Australia on Sunday.

Earlier, the Tigers defeated the Aussies by nine wickets in the first Test at the Marrara Cricket Ground in Darwin on August 16. Thus, the two-match Test series between the hosts and the tourists ended in a 1-1 draw.

Bangladesh scored 64 in the first innings on the first day (Saturday).
Australia piled up 210 in the first innings on the second day (Sunday).
The Tigers were bundled out for 95 in the second innings on the second day.

Australia resumed their first innings with the over-night score of 165 for the loss of eight wickets. Cameron Green and Nathan Lyon resumed their first innings with the over-night score of 51 and 10 runs respectively.

Cameron Green could add more 16 runs on the second day as he (67) was trapped leg before wicket by Shoriful Islam when Australia’s score was 186 for the loss of nine wickets.

Josh Hazlewood (6) was caught at the midwicket by Shadman Islam off Taijul Islam when the home side’s first innings came to an end.

Nathan Lyon remained unbeaten with 32 runs. His 62-ball innings was studded with four fours and a sixer.

Later, two Bangladesh batters could reach double digit figures. Bangladesh batters failed to build any notable partnership. Najmul Hossain Shanto made 31 from 46 deliveries featuring six fours.

Mushfiqur Rahim remained unbeaten with 29 runs. He struck three fours in his 80-ball innings.

Mitchell Starc grabbed six wickets at the cost of 12 runs in the first innings and bagged four wickets in the second innings.

Mitchell Starc altogether 10 wickets for (12+39)=51 runs. Mitchell Starc was adjudged the Player of the Match for his outstanding bowling performance.
