President urges ACC to bring corrupt under law

President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has urged the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to bring corrupt individuals under the law through impartial and fair investigations, regardless of their influence or position.

He made the call on Thursday afternoon when a delegation led by ACC Chairman Justice A K M Asaduzzaman paid a courtesy call on him at Bangabhaban.

The delegation included ACC Commissioner (Investigation) Dr Jahangir Alam Khan, Commissioner (Inquiry) Dr Md Sajjad Hossain Bhuiyan and Secretary Md Saidur Rahman Khan.

During the meeting, the ACC chairman briefed the President on the commission’s activities, ongoing initiatives and challenges in carrying out its responsibilities. He also sought the President’s cooperation in making the ACC’s anti-corruption efforts more effective.

The President said prolonged misrule, irregularities and a lack of accountability had made corruption one of the major challenges facing Bangladesh.

He stressed that the country’s progress and future depend on curbing corruption and called on the ACC to work with honesty, courage and impartiality.

The President also urged the commission to expedite the disposal of long-pending cases and reduce delays in the legal process.

He called for swift investigations and strict action in cases involving serious and large-scale corruption, while stressing the need to strengthen public awareness and promotional activities to develop anti-corruption values.

The President assured the ACC of his full cooperation in carrying out its constitutional and legal responsibilities effectively.

Secretaries from the President’s Office were also present at the meeting.
