Dilapidated road causes hardship in Hossainpur

Residents of Hossainpur in Kishoreganj are facing daily hardship as a nearly one-kilometre road has remained in a dilapidated condition for years.

The road stretches from the Hossainpur-Kishoreganj road through Dhanakura Haji E Khalek Government Primary School to Kamarpara in Hossainpur upazila.

During a recent field visit, it was found that the road has developed cracks, potholes and uneven sections at several points due to a lack of repairs for a long time. Farmers, traders, students and other local residents are forced to use the road despite the difficulties.

Araibaria Union Parishad Chairman Md Khushid Uddin said he had inspected the road and was aware of its poor condition.

“A temple, a mosque and a primary school have to be accessed through this road. Its condition is poor. I have spoken to the higher authorities about it before. I will raise the issue again,” he said.

Locals said the road was paved with bricks around 16 years ago, but no significant repair or development work has been carried out since then. Over the years, the bricks have worn away, leaving large potholes and damaged sections in several places.

The situation becomes particularly difficult during the rainy season, when travelling along the road becomes extremely challenging.

Local auto-rickshaw driver Abdul Matin said it is very difficult to travel on the road because of its poor condition.

The potholes damage various parts of vehicles, while passengers also have to suffer, he said.

“If the road is paved quickly, the long-standing suffering of local residents will be reduced,” he added.
Rakib Mia, a Class V student of Dhanakura Haji E Khalek Government Primary School, said he has to use the road every day to attend school.

“The poor condition of the road causes many problems while travelling. The situation becomes even worse during the rainy season,” he said.

Local trader Haridas Karmakar said the dilapidated condition of the road creates various problems in transporting goods and carrying out business activities.

“If the road is paved, both trade and commerce and the communication system in the area will improve,” he said.

Local resident Rafiqul Islam said the road has remained in poor condition for a long time.
“Although we have spoken to public representatives at different times, no effective solution has been found,” he said.

He urged the concerned higher authorities to take immediate steps to pave the road, considering the long-standing suffering of local residents.
