Swechhasebak Dal leader hacked in Ishwardi

Ishwardi upazila Jubo Swechhasebak Dal convener Shariful Islam Sharif was seriously injured after being attacked and hacked by unidentified assailants. The incident occurred at around 11:45 pm on Wednesday on the road in front of Jaynagar Kindergarten in Ishwardi Upazila.

Sharif was initially taken to Ishwardi Upazila Health Complex. Later, as his condition deteriorated, he was shifted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.

According to local residents and police sources, Shariful Islam Sharif was returning home to Jaynagar in his private car. When he reached the area in front of Jaynagar Kindergarten, several assailants allegedly opened fire from the front of his car. When the car stopped, the attackers surrounded Sharif and repeatedly hacked him with sharp weapons. He sustained serious injuries to his face and different parts of his body.

Local people later rescued him and took him to Ishwardi Upazila Health Complex. After providing initial treatment, the attending physicians referred him to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital for better treatment as his condition deteriorated.

Enamul Haque, general secretary of the Ishwardi Upazila Zia Cultural Organization (JASAS), said Shariful Islam Sharif was seriously injured in the attack and his condition was critical. He was being taken to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital by ambulance.

Md. Ashadur Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Ishwardi Police Station, said police visited the scene after receiving information about the incident.

The injured Sharif was sent to Rajshahi for advanced treatment. “The matter is being taken seriously. Police have started efforts to identify and arrest those involved in the attack,” he said.
