2 live pipe bombs defused in Demra

The Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) defused two live pipe bombs in Demra on Sunday night after arresting a man with the devices.

The devices were recovered from Jewel alias Ostad in the Nizhumbagh area of Demra around 8:30pm following a tip-off, said DMP Additional Deputy Commissioner (Media) Niaz Mehedi.

A CTTC team arrested Jewel and seized the two pipe bombs from his possession, the police official said.Members of the CTTC bomb disposal unit later arrived at the scene and neutralised the devices through controlled explosions using detonating cords.

Police said the bombs were defused after necessary safety measures had been taken.
No one was injured and no property was damaged during the operation.

The CTTC said legal proceedings against the arrested man were underway.
