Security tightened around 15 Aug

Ahead of the upcoming 15 August, security has been strengthened nationwide by identifying high-risk locations, with plainclothes intelligence personnel deployed at event venues and travel routes.

The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has adopted special security measures to keep law and order normal. Alongside stepping up intelligence activities to prevent sabotage and malicious activities by suspicious individuals and banned organizations, necessary security and preventive measures have been taken.

In addition, RAB has intensified cyber patrolling to prevent rumors and disinformation on social media. The organization said that if any attempt is made to create disorder through misleading posts, comments, or uploaded photos, immediate action will be taken.

RAB disclosed this information in a press release on Thursday.

The release stated that special security measures have been taken nationwide to ensure that no extremist group, banned organization, or anti-state and anti-government malicious faction can create sabotage or an unpleasant situation around the programs of various political parties centered on 15 August.

RAB further said that its Bomb Disposal Unit has been kept ready to take swift action if any explosive or explosive-like object is found anywhere.

RAB said that the main objective surrounding 15 August is to ensure the safety of the general public, prevent crime, and identify potential sabotage in advance. To this end, preparations have been made in every area, from intelligence gathering to field-level deployment and cyber surveillance.

RAB will take the lead in keeping the law-and-order situation normal, though coordination with local administration, police, other law enforcement agencies, and intelligence agencies will continue as needed. RAB has also called on citizens to remain vigilant.

It has advised that if anyone notices a suspicious person, object, or unusual activity, they should not attempt to handle the situation themselves but should promptly inform the nearest law enforcement agency.

Alongside past experience surrounding 15 August, the current political reality has made the connection between field-level programs and online disinformation and potential sabotage a major security challenge this time. For this reason, RAB’s preparations have increased surveillance not only on the ground but also in the cyber realm.
