Dengue deaths reach 63

Bangladesh’s dengue death toll has risen to 63 after two more people died in the past 24 hours, while health officials recorded 723 new cases, taking the year’s total to 21,550.

The latest figures, released by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Wednesday, show the dengue outbreak continuing to spread across the country, with cases reported from Dhaka and all major divisions.

The latest 24-hour count includes 112 patients hospitalised in Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) areas and 101 in Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) areas, making the two city corporations among the areas with the highest number of new patients.

According to a DGHS statement, 101 patients were hospitalised in Barishal division, 83 in Chattogram, 107 in Dhaka division, 98 in Khulna, 45 in Mymensingh, 63 in Rajshahi, 12 in Rangpur and one in Sylhet during the period.

With the latest figures, the number of dengue cases recorded in Bangladesh this year has reached 21,550, while the disease has claimed 63 lives.

The continuing rise has renewed concern over the spread of dengue as infections are being reported across both urban and regional areas.

The current dengue toll remains significantly lower than last year’s, when the disease claimed 413 lives and infected 1,02,861 people across the country.

In 2024, dengue claimed 575 lives and infected 1,01,214 people, according to the figures provided.
The latest DGHS figures underscore the continuing public health challenge posed by dengue despite the government’s ongoing efforts to contain the disease.
