MP Nazrul granted advanced bail
The High Court has granted eight weeks’ anticipatory bail to Gazi Nazrul Islam, a Member of Parliament from Satkhira-4 who was expelled from Jamaat-e-Islami, in an attempted murder case filed with Pallabi Police Station in the capital.
A High Court bench comprising Justice K M Zahid Sarwar and Justice Sheikh Abu Taher passed the order on Monday, 10 August.
Senior lawyer S M Shahjahan represented the MP during the bail hearing.
On 21 July, an attempted murder case was filed with Pallabi Police Station against Gazi Nazrul Islam and four others following the viral circulation of a video involving the MP in a “private moment.” The case was filed by Obaidur Rahman, the MP’s personal driver and maternal uncle of the woman whom the MP has introduced as his second wife.
Obaidur Rahman alleged that he was assaulted for protesting against the MP’s “immoral relationship” and for being suspected of having a role in leaking the video.
Besides MP Gazi Nazrul Islam, four of his associates have been named as accused in the case. They are Aminur Rahman, Masum Billah, Mostasim Billah and Rakibul Hasan.
