Trump says Iran war could end ‘pretty soon’

US President Donald Trump said on Thursday that he believed the war with Iran could end soon, suggesting Tehran would struggle to sustain the conflict much longer.

“I think it’s going to end pretty soon. I don’t think they can go much longer,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office, referring to Iran.

His comments came as questions mounted over US munitions stocks following five months of fighting.
Reuters reported earlier this week that the US military had used much of its stock of certain highly accurate long-range missiles during the conflict.

Asked about the state of US munitions supplies, Trump said the country had very large stocks of some weapons but acknowledged that supplies of others were tighter.

“We have certain types of munitions that are very powerful, that we have unlimited, virtual unlimited supply. We have others where it’s a little bit tighter,” he said.

Trump said US defence companies were expanding production capacity, including through new facilities for Patriot and Tomahawk missiles, as Washington seeks to replenish its military stocks.
